All About Hair: My Hair Journey

So by popular demand this blog post will be about hair and all the ins and outs, good and bad, and helpful tips. I am in no way a professional hairstylist, I can only share my experiences and what works for me. Enjoy!

If you know me then you know I love hair! I would change my hair everyday if I could. I watch hair videos on YouTube all day long! Here are some of the hairstyles I've had in the last couple of years! Ive had a press, perm, weave, braids, remy hair, brazilian hair, ombre hair, and I even tried to go natural, but not with the big chop, but I did transition for 10 months before I decieded to perm my hair again.

WHAT IS GOOD HAIR?

I feel like society makes us think that straight hair is better. Although I prefer straight hair, that doesnt mean that straight hair is good hair. I feel like good hair is healthy hair. Both of my roommates are natural and have beautiful long hair, but to some they wouldnt think so because of their shrinkage or curl pattern. Just because your hair is kinky doesnt mean it isnt healthy and mangable. Below is a picture of me straightening my roommate's hair. Her shrinkage is real, but she is far from "bald headed" lol

Now just you have long hair, does not mean that it is healthy. Its important to take care of your hair to maintain growth. You can do this by clipping your split ends, wearing protective styles, refraining from heat, and keeping your hair moisturized.

NATURAL HAIR V. PERMED HAIR AND WEAVES: My hair journey

My personal experience with going natural was ok. I had the prettiest curl pattern.

It was great, I got lots of compliments, but I get bored with my hair easily. So I started wearing clip ins and weaves, only to be disappointed because my hair didnt blend with the weave. Straight hair is never cute with curly edges lol So at first I decided to just perm my edges but my hair was so curly and thick that the perm didnt take. I then started venturing out to find new hairstyles and protective styles. At this point gel and edge control became my best friend. lol

So Im rocking my curly hair and I start to deal with some personal issues and when I go through things I usually change up my hair to make me feel better, so I decided to perm it. I was sad I didnt go the full year without a perm like I wanted, but it did make my hair easier to blend with my weaves and clip ins.

Now, my real hair is cool in all but it just wasnt cooperating with the weather and I got tired of flat ironing it because it didnt want heat damaged hair so I started wearing weaves. I LOVE WEAVES!!!!!! Below are some of the weaves I've worn and my real hair as well.
PROTECTIVE STYLES IVE USED:

-Weaves
-Braids
-Clip Ins
-Wigs
-Braid outs
-Buns
-Bantu Knots

TYPES OF WEAVES: Good Vs. Bad

There are levels to weave...
From Good to bad:
-Synthetic : not human hair, mixed, cant use a lot of heat, doesnt last long, cheap
-Human hair: can use heat, lasts longer than synthetic hair, prices vary
-Remy: can use heat, better luster of hair, better than human, prices vary
-Virgin Hair: Top quality, straight from the scalp, pricey

I have worn all of these types of hair at one point. (no shame in my game its levels to this and Im a college student) THE WAY YOU TAKE CARE OF THE HAIR IS WHAT MATTERS. Dont get caught up in the virgin hair hype. Ive had human and remy hair that have lasted longer than these so called "virgin hair" bundles. Basically the more you pay, the better the hair is. You get what you pay for.

MY HAIR CURRENTLY...

Two sew-ins ago I cut and layered my hair into this style...

...after a month and an half my cut grew out to this...

I trim my ends, always deep condition after my sew ins and also take hair vitamins. I try to refrain from using heat which is why I currently have curly hair installed so that I dont have to try to straighten my hair to blend it. I am 3 months post perm. Stretching my perms have helped me maintain growth. YOU CAN HAVE HEALTHY RELAXED HAIR. My hair still needs a little work but its definetly getting there!

HAIR PRODUCTS I USE:
- Olive Oil Products
- Eco Styler Gel (for edges because edge control doesnt work on me lol)
- Biotin vitamins
- Treseme Heat Protectant
- Cantu SheaButter Leave In Conditioner

FOLLOW UP!!!!
