College 101

Ive learned so many things in college...THE HARD WAY! I wish I had a guide, an older sibling, an older friend to "put me up on game." So I'm going to help you incoming freshmen. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES! LOL

1. LIVING ON YOUR OWN

Its your freshmen year, you are finally out on your own...you are 18/19 and you think you are grown. Being grown comes with a lot of responsibilites. Waking up on your own, mom isnt there to do your laundry, mom isnt there to cook your food, and you dont have a curfew. My freshmen year, they messed up when they told me "you dont have to come to class." Going to class isnt mandatory because you pay for the classes. With not going comes reprocutions though. Professors often drop letter grades for a certain amount of absences, but professors also give points for attendance. You may get lucky and get a professot that doesnt care. My point is, pick and choose your battles. Dont miss class, unless its an emergency.

2. PARTIES

There will ALWAYS be parties, with the same people, in the same outfits, playing the same music. Remember ACADEMICS FIRST, FUN LAST. YOU DONT HAVE TO BE AT EVERY PARTY! Nothings worse than never seeing someone on campus or in class but they be at EVERY PARTY. Especially for girls, makes you look like a bop. Ladies, dont be that girl always face down at a party. People will talk. We all will judge you. lol Not saying you cant have fun and dance with guys, but remember that you are always being watched. Keep it classy. Guys, stop coming to parties 5 deep asking "where the hoes at?" We need more gentlemen on campus. I absolutely hate going to parties and a random guy grabs me and says "hey ma, throw that a**" PAUSE. Excuse me? *proceeds to curve guy and shoot his pride* . Eventually parties will get old. Go to the ones that matter. (i.e. Homecoming) Because eventually the parties will get in the way of school, and that would defeat the whole purpose of college and you will waste a lot of money.

3. RELATIONSHIPS

I commend anyone that comes into college with a relationship. Just know that in college there are a lot of temptations. I have seen so many relationships fail, especially if they are long distance. But Ive also seen relationships get stronger. I also feel like it depends on how long yall have been together. If yall are a year+ in, then some floozy or lame shouldnt mess that up. Ive learned that hardly anyone is serious in college. If you cheat, then it wasnt real from the beginning....anyways Good luck with that lol

4. NETWORKING

If anything, college is all about who you know. Wanna skip the line at parties? Want free stuff? Want jobs? Connects? You have to associate yourself with the right people, but in a good way. Ladies, DONT BE A BOP. Its ok to be cool with guys, cliques, fraternities, organizations, but make sure there is an understanding. Make sure they have your back. GET INVOLVED ON CAMPUS. One of the best decisions I did was get involved on campus. You get to meet so many people, and you get so many opportunites to network. You gain lifetime friends that can help you after college. When you see people who are always winning awards, planning events, doing community service, helping others, those are the types of people you should associate yourself with! Social networks help! Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. Take advantage of your resources. Dont be shy.

5. THE FRESHMEN 15

At most schools the gym is included in your tuition. If you are paying for it anyways, you might as well use it. Me personally I lost 15lbs. lol There are so many hills at my school, it just sweated right off. lol I also did Zumba classes, cycling classes, and even yoga. Take advantage of  the things offered to you. Learn to eat better. I know ramen noodles and pizza rolls seem to be all we eat as college students, but maybe eat in portions. Eat a salad one day. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. When I stopped drinking sodas I lost a lot of weight, and my skin cleared up lol other than that I eat whatever I want, because I have a fast metablolism. lol Maybe I shouldve left that out...idk everyone is different. Thats just what worked for me lol

6. TEXTBOOKS

Everyone knows that textbooks are really expensive. Dont buy a book unless its necessary. My freshmen year I bought books we didnt even use, then when I tried to sell it back at the end of the semester I got like $5 back or nothing at all. GET CLASSES WITH YOUR FRIENDS. When you get classes with your friends, you can share books. I havent bought a book all semester lol also look into renting used books. Amazon and Chegg are great websites to rent cheap books from.

7. EXTRA CREDIT

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS DO EXTRA CREDIT. Do it in the beginning of the semester so you wont be thirsting for it in the end. Perks of doing extra credit includes:
1. Remember that day you wanted to sleep in, so you lost attendance points? USE EXTRA CREDIT
2. Remember that party you went to, instead of studying for that test so you failed it? USE EXTRA CREDIT
3. Remember that homework or assignment you forgot to do? USE EXTRA CREDIT.

8. CHOOSING THE RIGHT PROFESSORS

There is a website called RateMyProfessor.com. USE IT. It will save you money. Ask around. There are so many professors I've taken that I wish I wouldve done my research on first.

9. FOCUS

Never lose sight to why you came to college. A lot of people come to college and get caught up in the party life and end up dropping out. To be able to go to college is a privilege. Academics first. Be a great person and mentor to the community.

10. FIND A BALANCE

Now with all that being said you can have fun. You just have to find a balance between school and your social life. If you know you have a paper to write and a test to study for, dont go to that party. If you have an 8:00 class, dont stay up late the night before. There will always be parties. They arent going anywhere. Think about how many snacks you could buy if you stop paying $10+ for every party. If you just have to go to parties to see that fine boy or girl at least make sure all your work is done or at least caught up. Maybe try going to every other party.

THESE ARE JUST MY EXPERIENCES IVE ENCOUNTERED IN MY LAST 3 YEARS! 2015 I WILL GRADUATE! #SENIOR #FINALLY #HAPPY
